Extraction Process

Castor oil comes from the beans of the castor plant. It is extracted by the cold pressed or expelled pressing methods. It can also be extracted through solvent extraction.

Origins

Used all over the world for almost 4,000 years. It is native to the Mediterranean Basin, India, and Eastern Africa. There has also been mention that Cleopatra use castor oil to brighten the whites of her eyes.

History

 Many consider the castor plant a weed, but not the "father of holistic medicine". His name was Edgar Casey. He wrote of the many ways that he used castor oil for healing. He also taught his students how they could use the oil to cure wounds and other skin ailments. 

In India and Africa, the oil was used for help with pregnancy, skin ailments, and sexually transmitted diseases. In ancient Egypt, it was used to light lamps and some of the beans have been found in tombs that date all the way back to 4000 B.C.

This oil can cause an itchy rash if you have sensitivities to it. It is always a great idea to do a skin patch test to make sure you are not sensitive to the oil. If you do not see anything on your skin for 24 hours, it is safe for you to use.

Castor oil is to never be ingested orally. It can cause inflammation of the abdomen, stomach muscles, and intestines. Consult with your doctor if you have ingested it.
