Many of us love to hang out in the sun during the warmer, summer months. The only problem with hanging out in the sun, is sunburn! Sunburn can happen even when you wear sunscreens. Some of us are just more sensitive to the sun than others. There is some relief in sight though! Many essential oils can help you to find relief from sunburn. In fact, here are five essential oils that can help.
Lavender is a very mild essential oil and is known for helping to not only relax your body, but also to help find relief from different skin irritations, including sunburn. It is important to make suer the lavender is pure because additives could make your skin feel even worse.
To find relief from your sunburn, mix one drop of lavender with aloe vera gel. Mix it well. Then apply this mixture directly to the area that has been sunburned. If you have been burned in a large part of your body, you can take an oatmeal bath with a few drops of lavender. This bath will be very soothing to your skin, but remember to use warm water and not get the bath too hot. Step into the bath very slowly to make sure your burned skin doesn't get a shock.
Sandalwood is a very cooling and soothing oil. Many essential oil users love to use sandalwood on their skin with mixed with carrier oils. To find some sunburn relief, mix 2 drops of sandalwood with a drop of tumeric oil, and about 2 ounces of coconut oil. Mix them together very well and then you can apply them to your sunburned skin. You may have to apply this mixture a few times, but you will find some relief.
Frankincense seems to be an oil that doesn't get a lot of credit for all of the magical things it can do. It can help you to find some relief from painful sunburns. Your frankincense also needs to be 100% pure or it will have an adverse effect on your skin. Frankincense can help your skin recover much faster from a sunburn because of the enhancing benefits that it has. To find relief for your sunburn and replenish your dry skin, add two drops of frankincense to aloe vera gel. Apply two to three times a day until you feel some relief.
Because peppermint oil contains menthol, it is a popular cooling oil. What does a sunburn need more than anything else? Yes, to be cooled. Because peppermint is a very potent oil, applying it directly to your skin could make it burn even more. This is why it is imperative to dilute peppermint oil. By mixing two drops of peppermint oil to two tsps of aloe vera gel, you can make a winning coolant. Apply to your sunburn to find relief immediately.
Eucalyptus oil can help to heal sunburn very quickly. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can help your skin's swelling go down and cool it off. It can also help your skin from getting infected from your sunburn. By adding two drops of eucalyptus oil to one teaspoon of aloe vera gel, you can make a soothing mixture for your skin. Add some water to it and put it in a spray bottle. Spray your infected area two times a day and once before bed. You will begin to see a difference.
By using these essential oils, you can finally find some relief from sunburns. Be careful to mix them carefully and do a spot test on an uninfected area to see if your skin has sensitivity to the mixture. If you do, add more of the carrier oils.
